How to use Notifications

This guide will show you how you can set up e-mail notifications in DT Studio using the Notifications feature.

Examples of use

  • Send an alert when a freezer is too hot
  • Alert security if a window is opened
  • Notify a maintenance team if there is a water leakage
  • Be aware when a service button is pressed

What you need

  • Access to DT Studio
  • A user account with Project developer or Project administrator permissions

Steps

  1. In DT Studio, select the Notifications tab.
  2. Select Create new notification.
  3. Choose a suitable name.
  4. Select Trigger
  5. Select Schedule (Optional) 
  6. Select Add devices
  7. Select Add recipients
  8. Click Save Notification in the right-hand corner.

Select the event that will trigger the notification.

Trigger Description Sensors 
Touched Triggered when a sensor or Cloud Connector is touched All sensors and Cloud Connectors
Temperature Triggered when the temperature is above, belowoutside, or within of the defined range. Temperature, EN12830/330s, Humidity 
Relative Humidity Triggered when the humidity is above, belowoutside, or within of the defined range. Humidity
Object Present Triggered when the sensor is covered within 5mm if set to True

Triggered when the sensor stops being covered if set to False
Proximity
Water Detected Triggered when the sensor is covered with water if set to True

Adding a trigger delay

Notifications can be set to trigger immediately or after a delay, e.g. the temperature remains above 40°C for 1 hour and 30 minutes or a door remains open for more than an hour.

 

Schedule

An optional schedule for when notifications are allowed to trigger can quickly be set up. Simply choose the desired days and timeslots. Notifications triggered outside the set timeslots will not be delivered. The schedule can be set to apply for local time or UTC by toggling the option in the right-hand corner.

Add devices

Add all devices that the notification shall apply to by selecting Add Devices. You will then get a list view of all your devices, similar to the Sensors & Cloud Connectors overview. Add the devices by selecting the (+) to the left of the sensor name.

Add recipients

Currently, sending an email is the only action available. Fill out recipients, the subject and the body text that will be included in the email.

Variables

You can add variables to the notification text so that relevant information for the sensor is included. Supported variables are:

  • $name, display name as used in DT Studio. If the name is not set the device ID is shown.
  • $description, description shown in DT Studio.
  • $deviceID, device ID (e.g b7ktsvl7rihma4b9dlbg)
  • $celsius, temperature value in °C (unit is included).
  • $fahrenheit, temperature value in °F (unit is included).
  • $relativeHumidity, humidity given in %RH (unit is included).
  • $proximityStatus, the status displayed in DT Studio for proximity sensors (Open/Closed)
  • $objectPresent, display the objectPresent status as "present" or "not present"
  • $waterPresent, displays the waterPresent status as "water present" or "no water present"

    Additionally, label values can be accessed with $label.{labelKey}, e.g $label.name would display the content of the label name if present.

Email subject: "Room 102 has a high temperature"
Email body: "Sensor $name reported $celsius"

Use emulated sensors to easily test out your notifications with different values.
