Product Classification in International Trade

Product classification plays a vital role in the import and export processes.

Disruptive Technologies, in collaboration with our logistics partners and Norwegian customs, has thoroughly categorized its products. As of October 2023, there are no known import taxes or restrictions associated with the classifications for the countries to which we are selling.

¹ The Country of Origin (COO) refers to the place of manufacture, production, or growth of a product, indicating its source.

² ECCNs (Export Control Classification Numbers) are alphanumeric codes used on the Commerce Control List (CCL) to identify dual-use items for export control. ECCNs categorize items based on their nature, whether they are commodities, software, or technology, and their technical specifications.

³ In the United States, the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) is used to determine customs duties on imports. HTS codes are 10 digits, with the first six digits matching the HS code. The HTS is published by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

In the EU, the Harmonized System (HS) Code is used to classify traded products uniformly, making it easier for customs authorities worldwide to assess duties, and taxes, and collect data. The World Customs Organization (WCO) oversees and updates the HS every five years.
