When is a device considered offline?

A sensor is considered offline when it hasn't reported an event within its expected time window. This article explains how offline status is determined.

Who is this article for?

Studio users who want to understand what it means when a sensor shows as offline, or who are troubleshooting connectivity issues.

How offline status works

A sensor is considered offline if it has not reported an event within the expected time frame. The expected time frame is determined by the Connection Status Event rules, which define how frequently each sensor type is expected to check in.

If a sensor misses its expected check-in, the system automatically marks it as offline.

Troubleshooting / FAQ

Q: Does my sensor lose data while it is offline?
A: Yes, unless you are using a Temperature sensor with data backfill. Only those sensors can store data locally and transmit it once they reconnect.

Q: What causes a sensor to go offline?
A: Common causes include the sensor being out of range of a Cloud Connector, physical obstructions blocking the wireless signal, or the sensor's battery reaching the end of its life.
