Does the Cloud Connector support 802.1X authentication?

Disruptive Technologies Cloud Connectors do not currently support 802.1X network authentication. This article explains why and what alternatives are available.

Who is this article for?

IT administrators or network engineers who need to connect Cloud Connectors to a network that requires 802.1X authentication.

Why 802.1X is not supported

There are two main reasons 802.1X is not currently supported:

  • No user interface for credentials - the Cloud Connector has no interface for customers to enter network authentication credentials.
  • Certificate limitations - while each Cloud Connector has its own X.509 certificate, the infrastructure to use it as 802.1X credentials is not yet in place, partly due to the dynamic nature of certificate management at scale.

Troubleshooting / FAQ

Q: My network requires 802.1X. How can I still use a Cloud Connector?
A: If 802.1X is required on your wired network, consider using the Cloud Connector's cellular connection instead, or contact your network administrator about creating a network segment that does not require 802.1X. You can also contact DT support to discuss your setup.
