Can I have a power backup solution for my Cloud Connector?

Yes. You can use a UPS system or a power bank to keep your Cloud Connector running during a power outage. This article explains both options.

Who is this article for?

Anyone who needs their Cloud Connector to stay online during power outages, for example, in monitoring environments where continuous data is critical.

What do you need?

  • A UPS system or a power bank with pass-through capability and a 5V output.
  • A USB-A to barrel jack adapter (if using a power bank).

Backup power options

Option 1: UPS system
A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is the most reliable option. It is specifically designed for continuous wall connection and will automatically switch to battery power during an outage.

Option 2: Power bank
A power bank is a more cost-effective alternative. To use one with a Cloud Connector, you need:

  • Pass-through charging capability (so it can charge and power a device at the same time)
  • 5V output
  • At least 10,000 mAh capacity
  • Able to deliver at least 10W of power

A 10,000 mAh power bank should provide approximately 40 hours of backup. For Norwegian customers, the Andersson Nødlader 20,000 mAh is a good fit.

Power banks are not specifically rated or tested for continuous wall connection. They work well as a temporary fix, but a basic UPS is recommended for long-term reliability.

Troubleshooting / FAQ

Q: My power bank does not seem to power the Cloud Connector. What should I check?
A: Make sure your power bank supports pass-through charging and outputs at least 10W at 5V. Some power banks shut off automatically when they detect a low-draw device. Check the manufacturer's specifications before purchasing.
