This guide shows how to install the Mounting Bracket - Pipe to quickly and accurately measure surface temperature on pipes. A PDF installation manual is also available for download.
Who is this article for?
Anyone installing a DT temperature sensor on a pipe using the Pipe Mounting Bracket accessory.
What do you need?
- A DT Temperature Sensor
- The Mounting Bracket - Pipe (includes thermal pad and zip tie)
Steps
- Insert the sensor. Peel the adhesive protection from the back of the temperature sensor and place it in the square opening of the Mounting Bracket - Pipe with the temperature symbol facing up. Align the dots, then press down firmly for 2–3 seconds.
- Attach the thermal pad. Remove the liner from one side of the thermal pad and place it on top of the sensor to stick.
- Insert the zip tie. Make sure the clip is facing upwards.
- Attach to the pipe. Remove the remaining liner from the thermal pad before pressing the bracket against the pipe.
- Tighten the zip tie. Tighten firmly to maximize contact between the pipe and the sensor.
Temperature offset
When installed on a pipe, the sensor measures the pipe's surface temperature, not the fluid inside. Estimate the water temperature by calculating the offset between surface and fluid temperature. The offset varies depending on pipe material and thermal properties.
Example installation
Below is an example installation measuring the surface temperature of both a hot and cold pipe.
