What is Extended Data Storage and how do I activate it?

Extended Data Storage lets you access up to 3 years of sensor data in DT Cloud. By default, sensor data is stored for 31 days. With this feature enabled, you can view, export, and retrieve long-term data for compliance, analysis, and historical reporting needs.

Who is this article for?

Anyone who needs to access sensor data beyond the default 31-day storage period, whether for compliance requirements, long-term trend analysis, or historical reporting. This applies to DT Studio users, API developers, and Organization Administrators.

What Extended Data Storage includes

With Extended Data Storage activated, you get 3-year data access through three channels:

  • DT Studio: Access and analyze long-term data directly in DT Studio without needing separate data storage solutions.
  • Studio Exports: Download up to 3 years of sensor data using Studio Exports for easy sharing and analysis.
  • APIs: Retrieve up to 3 years of data through APIs to integrate with your own software applications.

How it works

Once Extended Data Storage is activated for your Organization in DT Studio, data begins accumulating beyond the default 31-day window. The data builds up over time from the activation date; it is not retroactive. For example, one month after activation, you will have two months of sensor data available.

Troubleshooting / FAQ

Q: Do I have to select which sensors get Extended Data Storage?
A: No. Extended Data Storage is purchased at the organization level and applies to all sensors across all projects in your organization.

Q: What happens if I exceed 1,000 sensors on the Essentials plan?
A: You will be upgraded to the Pro plan (up to 10,000 sensors) at the time of your next renewal. You will not receive an additional invoice mid-cycle.

Q: What happens if I'm on the Pro plan and my sensor count drops below 1,000?
A: You will be downgraded to the Essentials plan (up to 1,000 sensors) at the time of your next renewal.

Q: Will I immediately have 3 years of data after activating Extended Data Storage?
A: No. Data begins accumulating from the activation date. For example, one month after activation, you will have two months of sensor data available. It builds up over time until you reach the full 3-year window.

Q: How do I know if Extended Data Storage is active on my account?
A: Extended time range options will be available in DT Studio, and you will see the new subscription listed in the billing module.

Q: Is emulated sensor data included in Extended Data Storage?
A: No. Emulated sensor data is only accessible for one month, the same as before.

Q: Where can I find the extended time range options in DT Studio?
A: You can access the extended time range options in three places: the Dashboard, during export creation, and on the sensor details page.

Q: Why can't I see connectivity data for longer than one month in DT Studio?
A: Connectivity data beyond one month is only available through the API, not in DT Studio.

Q: Does the API work differently with Extended Data Storage?
A: The API works the same way as before. The only difference is that organizations with Extended Data Storage enabled can retrieve up to 3 years of data instead of the default 31 days.

Q: Where is the data stored?
A: All data is stored in Google data centers located in Europe.
