How to activate sensors and Cloud Connectors in Studio

This article explains how to activate sensors and Cloud Connectors in Studio so they start sending data. When you activate a device, a subscription is assigned to it and it begins transmitting data to Studio and the API.

Who is this article for?

Anyone who has claimed devices to their organization in Studio and wants to start receiving data from those devices. This applies whether you're activating devices right after claiming them or at a later time.

What do you need?

  • A user role of Project administrator or higher in the project containing your devices.
  • An available subscription for each device you want to activate.
  • Note: Cloud Connectors that are Ethernet-only do not require a subscription for activation.

How to activate your devices?

To activate sensors or Cloud Connectors in Studio, follow these steps:

  1. Open Studio.
  2. Select the Project that contains the devices you want to activate.
  3. Select Sensors & Cloud Connectors.
  4. Select the devices you want to activate, then click Activate/Deactivate.
  5. Review the information shown.
  6. From the dropdown menu, select Activate.
  7. Click Activate devices in the confirmation pop-up.

The selected devices are now activated and subscriptions have been assigned to them. They will begin sending data to Studio.

Activating a single device

You can also activate or reactivate a single device by opening its detailed view and activating it from there.

Troubleshooting / FAQ

Q: Do I need a subscription for every device I activate?
A: Yes. Each activated device requires its own subscription. If you don't have enough subscriptions available, you won't be able to activate additional devices.


Q: Do I need to activate Ethernet-only Cloud Connectors?
A: Yes. Ethernet-only Cloud Connectors require activation, but they do not require a subscription.


Q: Can I deactivate a device after activating it?
A: Yes. Activated devices can be deactivated at any time.


Q: When can I activate my devices?
A: You can activate devices immediately when they are claimed by your organization, or at any later time.
